Advertising Key Conventions

1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention?
Picture of the product. Let’s audiences see the product. The image also contains the slogan which is ‘Taste The Rainbow’ this could also explain why in the advert above the skittles are placed in colour order like a rainbow to reinforce the idea.

Logo is brighter than the rest of the advert as it needs to pop out and stand out for audience to see it. They have refrained
from making the title colourful as the rest of the advert already include a large range of colours.

The Background is a blue sky with soft looking white clouds. The bright colours could mean happiness. And the consumers might get the impression that buying or gifting this product will bring joy and happiness to the person and the one giving the gift.

Slogan is at the bottom in a dark blue font but clearly visible and stands out as it is different to the background. The slogan ‘taste the rainbow’ could be the USP as not every product can make you taste the colours of the rainbow.

Colour Scheme: The main colours are blue-white and the colours of the rainbow- this creates a brand for them. So now whenever consumers think of rainbows ‘Skittles’ comes to their heads.

2) For each convention, write about how it might appeal to a target audience.

The Background is very light and airy which could appeal to the audience as they would like to feel as calm as the clouds floating in the blue sky. Also, it could be connoted as fun and something you’d wanna try.

Slogan ‘taste the rainbow’ could be an interesting and new concept for people and appeal to audience as it could be weird if you can taste the different flavours of the rainbow but intriguing enough for them to try it.
