Examples of convention are: title of publication, barcode and central image. An example of a convention of a magazine cover from Tatler would be the colour scheme which consists mainly of the colours gold, white, pink. Gold could connote the wealthiness of the audience. and appeal note to upper class. The pink connotes femininity and pureness.

2) How does the front cover of Tatler use media language to appeal to its target audience? [6 marks]

The front cover of tatler uses non-verbal codes to appeal audiences by using a central image. The central image is a white women wearing a dress and pearls. Pearls are seen as very prestigious and the dress is gold and white which are colours that connote wealth so therefore women who read the magazine and are considered upper class would want to be wearing them. Aspirers might be the ones who most likely purchase the items as they love fashion and spending money.The colour scheme includes: pink,white,gold,and hints of yellow and green. Pink connotes feminity whereas gold and white represent wealth and green and yellow give tranquility which succeeders need to stay calm to success.The magazine name ‘Tatler’ is written in sans-serif font which seems more formal and sophisticated. And the font looks expensive appealing to the upper class posh audience and also they have a slogan dying ‘The New Posh’.

3) How does the front cover of Reveal magazine represent female celebrities? [12 marks]

Reveal magazine represents women as maternal and caring which are seen positively. The cover line ‘Blooming Baby Bumps’ the word blooming could be something new and baby bring something into this world and love being happy and joyful.And also an image of Cheryl smiling which could mean she’s content having a child. An the other hand. Reveal represents female celebrities as having many relationship which could be seen as a negative. An example of this is ‘We are in love, this is the strongest relationship i’ve had’ this could imply she had had many relationships and stating she’s finally happy in one shows she’s desperate for love. Also female celebrities are shown to be dramatic ‘Katie plots SECRET MEETING with Pete’ and using bold fonts to make this situation more dramatic and using paparazzi pictures from two different incidents to make it look suspicious and dramatic. Finally Reveal uses ‘Stuff The Diet’ which makes it feel more relatable and real. therefore also telling us that beauty standards are irrelevant and don’t matter as celebrities do not care. Reveal uses there platform to inform readers that changing yourself to fit in by dieting doesn’t matter.
